Thanks for the advice, I'm leaning towards norton firewall blocking it... maybe I did accidently click on it to block it. Because my internet and msn works just fine. I can get online and I restarted my pc several times. I'll go into the firewall settings when I get back home and look it up and see if its blocking GW or allowing it. I'm suspecting its going to be blocking it...

IT is for GW. The client handles all of that anyway. The bulk of the game is in a giant dat file. Usually when you run the client away from the normal folder, it has some options. And one of them is REINSTALL. All it does is erases the current dat file and replaces the old client with a fresh copy from the Anet server. Then it runs again and redownloads all of the files to the new giant dat file. The only registry info it puts in (I think) is the uninstall stuff for the Add/Remove programs menu.

Here is what I had to do to fix it. first I turned off norton firewall and tried GW... same thing, could not detect internet. So I went and tried to reinstall GW over its current location. Still would not detect connection. So I uninstalled it, deleted the shortcut and restarted. Tried to then reinstall GW... SAME problem? By now I was getting pissed obviously. Norton was disabled, wtf is going on? So I tried again, this time doing a restore GW option I hadn't seen before. It was able to re-download GW, repair/restore GW, it connected and after a minute of downloading all the updates, I got to the log in screen. I typed in my account info and it logged me on. Up came my characters, everything was there and now I'm as happy as can be... unless this happens again...

One good Norton feature is GoBack (which loads even before Windows). It's not infallable, obviously, but it can solve the majority of hair-pulling software problems associated with your own system.

Before I retired from my mobile computer tech business, I recommended it to all my customers. The lost business from not having to go and solve somebody's problems was more than offset by customer satisfaction and good will, and increased recommendations.

My kids call from all over with, "Dad, the computer won't boot into Windows -- I can't connect -- my sound won't work -- my game stopped running". Most times it's a software issue. The first thing I ask is, "Did you run GoBack"? and nine times out of ten it's problem solved. I'm not pushing Symantec -- their programs do suck up resources -- but GoBack (part of SystemWorks) is a keeper.
